Position: Senior Development Officer – WRDC

 

Created in 1997, Women in Resource Development Corporation (WRDC) is a provincial non-profit organization committed to increasing women's participation in trades and technology. With private and public funding, WRDC offers a variety of programs and services to address the challenges surrounding the attraction, recruitment, retention and advancement of women in these careers. Our charitable arm, the Educational Resource Centre (ERC), was created in 2002, to provide hands-on learning and career exploration opportunities for younger women and girls in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM).

 

Position Summary

 

Reporting to the Director, People & Operations, the Senior Development Officer is responsible for developing and successfully executing a fund development strategy that advances WRDC’s strategic priorities. The successful candidate will manage a diverse portfolio of critical funder/stakeholder relationships consisting of government agencies, corporations, foundations, and individuals across several industries/sectors. The Senior Development Officer is also responsible for coordinating, writing, and producing impactful content in a variety of styles including grant applications, funding proposals, impact reports, and other documents that promote the fundraising goals of WRDC. This is a highly strategic role that demands strategic planning, resourcefulness, and exceptional interpersonal and collaboration skills.

 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

 

  • Design, implement and manage a comprehensive fund development strategy for WRDC.
  • Lead and oversee the full life cycle of funding applications and proposals from research to submission.
  • Using a variety of sources, identify available grant and funding opportunities that align with WRDC’s strategic priorities; write and submit compelling and impactful grant applications, funding proposals, correspondence and other documents for new and existing funders.
  • Liaise with finance to ensure grant/proposal budgets have appropriate level of financial review and approval.
  • Collaborate with program staff and other stakeholders to gather necessary information for proposals.
  • Ensure all grant applications/funding proposals are submitted on time and are compliant with all criteria and requirements set by the funding agency.
  • Communicate with internal team and external stakeholders about funding opportunities, application status and project progress.
  • Establish and build impactful and trusted relationships with current, new, and potential collaborating organizations, funders and clients through meetings, networking opportunities, communications and events.

 Qualifications and Requirements

 

  • University Degree or College Diploma in a related field (Non-Profit Management, Public Administration, Communications, Business, or other relevant area.
  • At least 5-8 years of work experience in grant writing, proposal development, grant management. and business development.
  • Strong understanding of nonprofit financial management and budgeting.
  • Familiarity with Women and/or indigenous centered grants and funding opportunities is preferred.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written, with strong interpersonal abilities.
  • Ability to establish connections and build long-term relationships to work collaboratively with businesses, industry associations, government, education institutions, indigenous groups, and community organizations.

  • Ability to work with minimal supervision, collaborate and work effectively in a team environment; flexibility to meet workload demands.
  • Related experience in the not-for-profit sector and demonstrated working knowledge of community-based programs, including project development, coordination, and management considered an asset.
  • Related experience in women centered organizations is considered an
  • Certificate of Conduct and Vulnerable Sector Check is required upon employment and every two years thereafter.

Salary Range: $70,000 - $80,000 per annum. WRDC offers a competitive compensation and benefits package. Starting salary will commensurate with experience and skills.
