St. John’s Board of Trade hosts its first annual State of the Province Event

St. John’s Board of Trade hosts its first annual State of the Province Event with an address from the Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador

St John’s, NL, October 20, 2022 – The Honourable Dr. Andrew Furey, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, spoke to members of the St. John’s Board of Trade at a sold-out lunch event yesterday. This new event for Newfoundland and Labrador, called State of the Province 2022, is the start of an annual checkup on the health of our province.

The Honourable Dr. Andrew Furey discussed a variety of topics – from hydrogen to healthcare. Overall, we heard a theme of momentum and coming together to quickly make change for the better.

“We were so happy to host this event and provide our members with an opportunity to hear from the Premier, and learn about the provincial government’s priorities,” said AnnMarie Boudreau, CEO, St. John’s Board of Trade. “Our members care about what’s happening in our province; they want to be helpful and ensure we’re positioned to be successful. This event gave them a chance to hear about the initiatives and actions that are important for our future, and positions them to play a role in helping us get there.”

Walmart Canada, the title sponsor for State of the Province 2022, announced a donation of $50,000 to Kids Eat Smart Foundation Newfoundland and Labrador in honour of the event, more than doubling last year’s annual donation and reinforcing their commitment to the communities in which they operate.

“Our local stores and associates have never been more important than they are today, which is why we’re continuing to make significant investments in Newfoundland and Labrador,” said Tom Flaim, Walmart Canada Regional Vice President for Atlantic Canada. “This year’s State of the Province event showcases the depth of our local business community and the strong collaboration between the public and private sector. Walmart Canada and our 2,400 local associates are proud to be part of this community.”
