In February of 2017 Rabbi Chernitsky and his wife Tuba, together with their children moved to St. John's to call Newfoundland home. Their arrival heralded the beginning of the Newfoundland branch of the international ''Chabad'' group.
Chabad is the largest Jewish organization in the world with a presence in over 100 countries and territories. Chabad is a worldwide movement that spreads Jewish awareness to all Jews whether male or female, old or young. Each Chabad branch is responsible for their own finances and has some flexibility in terms of the programs they offer. Due to the limited size of the Jewish community, Chabad quickly expanded their reach and started working with the general community.
