Housekeeper
Housekeeper is a member of the housekeeping team who is responsible for general cleaning duties in the facility, including the general cleaning of residents’ suites, bathrooms, staff lounge, resident lounges, hallways, multi-purpose room, bistro, and other areas as designated.
Description of Key Responsibilities/Duties:
- Fulfills the duties and responsibilities of a housekeeper with a pleasant demeanour focusing on upholding excellent customer service, recognizing the importance of maintaining these ongoing relationships with all our clients, inclusive of residents, families, guests, volunteers and staff.
- Carries out all aspects of routine and rotation cleaning throughout the building and residents’ suites which includes the following, but not limited to: dusting, vacuuming, sweeping and mopping; cleaning appliances, washing floors, walls, windows and doors; changing and making beds; removing curtains/window coverings for cleaning and re-hanging, light bulb replacements and garbage removal.
- Cares for equipment, supplies and work areas through the following: maintains cleanliness and safe storage of equipment; reports defective and damaged equipment and furnishings; keeps work area in an orderly, safe and clean condition; keeps inventory in order on individual carts; replenishes supplies throughout the building; understands the use and application of cleaning chemicals.
- Ensures that furniture is arranged to provide a safe and efficient environment.
- Observes and reports any changes in residents’ behavior to immediate supervisor and Resident Care Manager or their designate, as deemed appropriate.
- Fosters an environment of safeguard to ensure residents’ well-being is maintained, particularly for those seniors who are vulnerable and require guidance/support.
- Ensures written documentation and verbal reports are maintained as per Company policy and procedures with respect to confidentiality and security.
- Responsible for cleaning in accordance with the housekeeping schedule and always works collaboratively with the housekeeping team when the schedule requires change in order to meet the needs of clients.
- Assists with orientation/training of new staff.
- Deals with delicate situations and troubleshoots issues and concerns that may arise within the scope of the housekeeper’s duties and responsibilities.
- Counts inventory of housekeeping supplies on a quarterly basis.
- Performs other related duties as required to ensure quality housekeeping service.
- Performs other related/assigned duties as required to meet the needs of residents.
Qualifications:
Abilities and Skills:
- Ability to communicate effectively both written and oral English.
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills in working with residents, families, the Tiffany Team, as well as the general public.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills with demonstrated ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to take direction and learn procedures.
- Demonstrated proficiency in ability to treat residents with respect, dignity and care.
- Able to apply tact, discretion, empathy, patience and concern in providing quality services to residents.
- Demonstrated proficiency in ability to resolve contentious or sensitive issues, or situations requiring conflict resolution.
- Trustworthy, reliable, dependable.
- Professional, open, friendly, autonomous, team player, responsive and positive.
- Ability to meet the physical requirements of the position.
- Must be able to operate housekeeping/residential cleaning related equipment.
- Maintains confidentiality of resident and staff information.
Experience, Training/Education and Work Record:
- High school diploma.
- 1-3 years’ previous work experience in housekeeping, residential cleaning or other related field.
- Current First Aid and CPR certification.
- Knowledge of WHMIS and the importance of complying with same.
- Demonstrated knowledge and comfort level in working with a vulnerable population of seniors, who may present with various challenges such as cognitive impairment.
- Strong commitment and focus on providing resident/client service excellence.
- Knowledgeable of the importance of and ability to comply with internal policies and procedures.
- Previous experience working in the field of seniors’ care/living and persons with disabilities is preferred.
- Energetic, enthusiastic, motivating, compassionate and caring person who has demonstrated passion to work with seniors.
- Ability to work in a flexible, resilient environment to meet the needs of residents.
- A satisfactory record of work performance and attendance is required.
Hours of Work:
- Hours of work will vary from week to week in order to maintain a flexible environment to meet the needs of our residents.
Rate of Pay:
- $17.42 per hour.
Required documents prior to start date:
- Code of Conduct with a Vulnerable Sector Check that is has been issued within six months.
- Current First Aid/CPR certificate.
- Three employment references.
